Thanksgiving Hostessing Tips

November 20, 2018 · In: Parties, Thanksgiving Entertaining

Happy thanksgiving week!

Hopefully you all aren’t stressing too much now that we are two days away from the big holiday. If you are hostessing for the first time, need a little inspiration for another round of hostessing or just a guest, I’ve got a few tips for you to make this holiday easy breezy!

1. First a foremost. Relax. You got this! There is so much prep you can do ahead of time to help day of go smoothly. Enlist all the help you can get, especially running to the grocery store. I love services like Postmates or Instacart which help avoid going to the store so you can focus on what’s going on at home.

2. Plan ahead! By now hopefully you have your menu and shopping list planned out. If you don’t here are some last minute recipes! Prep as much as you can a day or two before. There are tons of dishes that can sit in your fridge until they need to go into the oven or be reheated (mashed potatoes especially!). Make your pies this evening or tomorrow and also know that there is NOTHING wrong with store bought pies!

3. Prep your space. Set the table tonight or tomorrow so that is all ready to go. Lay out all of the serving dishes and label everything so you know where everything is going and if you need an extra dish you can run to the store.

Some of my favorite places to shop for serve-ware:

  • Crate & Barrel
  • West Elm
  • CB2
  • Anthropologie

4. Run the dishwasher and have a dish washer! Once the dishwasher is filled during cooking, run it asap. Even while you are enjoying thanksgiving dinner. That way when it’s time for the official clean up, you will have it emptied and ready to be re stocked. Also, while you are cooking put someone to work to be the dish washer while you cook. It makes one less thing to think about.

5. Lastly, when setting the table keep things simple so it is one less thing to worry about. Simple white plates paired with a colorful or printed napkin is a great way to dress up the table. Have votives and candles for mood lighting and let the food be the centerpiece.

Happy thanksgiving ya’ll!
