A Valentines Date Night In For Two

February 12, 2018 · In: Parties, Recipes, Valentines Inspiration

Looking for a simple yet romantic idea for valentines day?

This post was sponsored by Duraflame, all opinions are my own.

Since Jeremy and I began dating over seven years ago, we have made valentines day a simple tradition, without all the pressure. We only exchange cards, not gifts and we either go out for dinner with friends or cook something simple at home. Over the years we have found that we much prefer staying at home cozy with Winston rather than battling the valentines date night rush. It also takes the pressure off of the holiday and allows for us to enjoy each others company more.

In order to create a cozy valentines date night in for two there are a few simple things you will need! First and foremost, plan to have your date night by the fire with a Duraflame log. This creates such a romantic ambiance, cozy with your loved one. Did you also know how easy Duraflame makes starting fires?? Their one start log is the perfect way to have a fire without all the hassle of wood and having to tend to the fire throughout the evening. So, you are able to focus on each other!

Set your scene by your Duraflame fire with a shearling rug and pillows. This allows for a comfortable spot for you and your loved one to enjoy by the fire. When it comes to what to munch on for dinner, fondue by the fire is the way to go! One of my favorite date nights with Jeremy was in a cozy little fondue place in Geneva, Switzerland. Since flying over to Switzerland for valentines day isn’t so achievable, fondue at home is just as perfect. Especially by a Duraflame fire! Pair your fondue with a selection of cured meats, sliced bread, cornichons, and vegetables for dipping. For a simple fondue recipe, see below.

Classic Cheese Fondue Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/3 pound firm alpine-style cheese, such as Gruyere
  • 1/3 pound Fontina
  • 1/3 pound Gouda
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon brandy
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

  1. Grate all of the cheeses. In a medium bowl, combine the cheeses with the cornstarch, tossing thoroughly to coat all pieces.
  2. In a stove-save fondue pot or large heavy saucepan, bring the wine, garlic, and lemon juice to a simmer over medium-low heat. Add the cheeses into the simmering liquid a little at a time, stirring well between each addition to ensure a small fondue. Once smooth, stir in the brandy, mustard, and nutmeg.
  3. Arrange an assortment of bite-sized dipping foods on a platter. If necessary, carefully pour the fondue into a fondue pot. Serve with fondue forks or wooden skewers. Dip and enjoy!

When I think of valentines day date nights, champagne always comes to mind! It’s the quintessential way to celebrate! And, who doesn’t love champagne by a Duraflame fire?! Other than enjoying each others company, cozy by the fire with champagne and fondue, have a board game close by to play! Now, nothing that you get too competitive with, but something enjoyable for the two of you. Our personal favorite game to play just the two of us is backgammon. This old school game makes date night even more fun!
