Our Home Renovations Update and Inspiration

August 14, 2018 · In: House Projects, Lifestyle

The biggest challenge.

A lot of you asked for a post on what we are doing as far as renovations to our new home, so here it is! If ya’ll love this post I will keep adding updates as we really start moving forward. Currently the status of our house has been the same the past 4 months so there hasn’t been much to report on, however I am excited to share with you all what we’re are planning and the teeny tiny changes that have been happening with our home renovations!

I’m hoping to frame our wedding photos like this!

To start, Jeremy and I purchased our first home back in February, yay! It was something we had talked about doing for years but we always weren’t quite sure if we would stay in Denver plus we wanted to make sure it felt like the right time in our life. Now, I don’t know if I would have chosen this for our first year of marriage, but after the wedding I was in a funk from no longer planning the wedding so this project came at the perfect time to help fill that void. It’s come with many, many challenges, and I won’t lie Jeremy and I have butt heads. In some weird way our home renovations have brought us closer together knowing that this is something we were doing on our own and creating together. Despite the many ups and downs, I LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT for the finished project. It’s 100% worth all the hub-bub!

Front Entry Way Inspiration

A little bit about the house… it’s a bungalow style home that was built in 1950s. Jeremy and I love mid-century modern homes so that was what we were in search for. I toured the house by myself with our Realtor, Team Denver Homes, (after seeing about 15 other properties with Jeremy) and instantly fell in love. I could completely envision what could be done to the home to make it beyond perfect. The moment I got home I told Jeremy we had to put an offer on it, and so we did! That made it even more fun that he had not even seen the house but was trusting me that it was our perfect first home. The biggest task has been taking down a wall in the home which separated the kitchen from the rest of the house. Demo day was so much fun! Below are photos of the state of the kitchen now and a little inspiration of what I have planned! My upcoming entertaining posts (when the house is done…) are going to be on another level in this home haha!

How cute is the hubs! Fun fact: Jeremy works in construction, hence why we are doing this all ourselves. We hope to make a career out of this!

Kitchen Inspiration –

I think I am most excited about our kitchen sink faucet and bar pulls for the cabinets! I absolutely love the combination of white and gold (hence my wedding colors)!

I’m also so excited about this little area planned for the kitchen (to the left of the sink). I planned to put colorful cookbooks, my favorite glassware and other little trinkets on the shelves!

So far we have gutted 80% the house. Floors are all torn up, the bathrooms are down to studs and the kitchen has been gutted. The next step is drywall which is very exciting because that means we will really get the ball rolling!

The one other item on our checklist was painting the house from the icky brown color it was to white with black trim. I have always loved the look of white and black homes, it’s just os classic! Check out the before and after!

AFTER:

Below is the inspiration for our front door! We installed these numbers and this mailbox (I’m weirdly obsessed with it!). It completely transformed the front of the house!

When is the house going to be done?? I get asked this a lot. We have no idea. None! But in the meantime this is an adventure with Jeremy and we are loving (trying to at least) every minute! Comment below if you want to see more updates along the way! And keep your finger crossed we will be drywalling soon!
