Hosting 101: Relax

January 9, 2015 · In: Parties

If you haven’t figured it out yet.. I love hosting!

I remember the very first dinner party Jeremy and I threw. Naturally it was me doing most of the work.. but I can’t blame him for staying out of the details, I am quite the perfectionist. I have always LOVED putting parties together though. Every little detail is thought out. Even when I was little I was giving my mom lists of what I would like my birthday parties to be like. I had her throw me so many parties too! From Halloween, Super Bowl parties (this isn’t something that just now started!) it has always been my niche. There came a moment where someone said to me they were surprised how relaxed I was when hosting. I like to think I am a laid back person but I can definitely get uptight sometimes.. and finding this calm before the storm is something I have perfected. However, I have found a few easy hosting tips for you when hosting your next dinner party that will help you find your “zen” so you can relax and enjoy!

DSC_0792DSC_07531. Empty the dishwasher before the party begins! This makes a WORLD of a difference. Think about it.. when you start to load the dirty dishes you will have all the room in the world!

DSC_0770DSC_07692. Take out the trash. I don’t know if it is just me but it seems like our trash can is always full. The worst thing that can happen during a dinner party is the trash can being completely full and forcing your man to take it out in front of all your guests.. don’t be that hostess.

3. Invest in the perfect tableware. I have found that among all the linens and dishes we have I tend to always gravitate towards the same things. These gold silverware are something I am so in love with. They are a bit on the pricey side but it was worth it. There is something about gold touches on your table that make it look so pretty!

DSC_0767DSC_0788DSC_07754. Flowers! Obviously not everyone has a best friend who is also a florist (sorry to brag!) Haha. But there is no reason you can’t be your own florist! I have found that if I am putting an arrangement together I like to pick out different flowers that are unique looking to add to some of my favorite flowers (peonies all day every day, duh). Use shorter small vases and have two or more of them on the table. I recently went into The Ruffly Rose, possibly the cuest flower shop in Denver! You are able to pick out your own flowers to make an arragement which was so fun doing!

DSC_0761DSC_0777DSC_07685. Make a simple meal. Unless I have all day to cook, I like to make meals that I can prepare ahead of time and just put in the oven right before everyone arrives. An easy pasta dish (baked ziti is great) with an easy salad is perfect to serve! If your man is a grill master, (or even you!) grilling is always an easy thing to do too. Marinate your meat the night before so it is full of flavor. I also am a big advocate for slow cooker meals too!
