With the holidays among us and preparing for many guests to stay in our homes, there is not better time to start prepping your guest room than now.

This is one of those important lessons my mother has taught me that I will forever feel grateful for. When putting together your guest room always keep in mind you want your guest to feel like they are staying at a hotel in the coziness of your home. Make the room feel inviting but not as though they are invading anyones space. You want them to be able to nest and make it their own while they are there! There are many important elements to focus on, number one being the bed.
This is the mothership of the guest room, the biggest piece! If your guest room bed isn’t comfortable, your guest isn’t happy. If your guest isn’t happy, then they are going to be difficult to entertain for the rest of your say. SO, make up a comfortable bed. I always find the more pillows on the bed, the cozier it looks. However, don’t go too overboard and have it be annoying for the guest to make the bed in the morning. The sheets must be soft but not worn soft, if that make sense? Smoother than hotel sheets, but still crisp. When making the bed make sure to pull the sheets tightly on each corner so the sheet is extra crisp. There is nothing worse than getting into a bed that the sheets are jumbled up in a corner. I love the Restoration Hardware hotel collection sheets. They are so clean and simple looking. However, I do realize they are a bit of an investment so I tagged similar styles that are just as beautiful below.
When it comes to the bathroom this is another key element to the room. Always make sure to have EVERYTHING you would possibly want necessity wise in the bathroom. Follow this trusty list if you are not sure:
- Cotton Swabs
- Q-tips
- Face Towels
- Hand Towels
- Normal Sized Towels
- Shampoo + Conditioner
- Body Wash
- A Loofa or something similar
- Hand Soap
- A candle / room spray
- Tissues
Extra things to add:
- Extra Toothbrush + Toothpaste
- Hair Dryer
- Hair Brush
- Curling Iron (if you’re feeling fancy!)
These elements will make the guest feel so comfortable and not be bugging you for anything! Add anything a little extra that will make them feel like they are at a spa, see below!
The next element to focus on is the presentation of the room. Obviously have the bed made, fresh towels in the bathroom and give the room a good cleaning. On the bed set out a tray with flowers and water as an inviting gesture to say “Welcome to my home”. I love to set out Pellegrino and glasses in our guest room as an added touch! Another clever thing to do is set out a card or frame with your wifi login and password. There will never be a time a guest arrives at your home and does not ask for the wifi information!
Lastly, open your home to your guest! Make them feel welcome in every (main) part of your house. Show them how to use the TV, coffee machine, and help themselves to your fridge (However, I totally understand if you don’t want them eating your food, so maybe don’t suggest this one – but definitely offer them any snack or beverage). Make sure you let them know what is in the agenda for the weekend opening to any of their suggestions allowing for down time. Overall, make them feel welcome and cozy in your home!
