Caramel Apple Cider Hot Toddy

Has anyone ever had a hot toddy? I have been talking about drinking them for years but never had one until this winter! I don’t know what the appeal was, but something felt extra wintery cozied up by the fire drinking a hot toddy on a snow day. And what better day than today to drink one! I finally got to try my first one at the “Winter Wonderland” at the Standard Hotel in New York City. They completely transformed their patio into a little snow village with lots of trees and yurts. The menu consisted of warm drinks, hot toddy being one, and fondue! It was seriously the most fun night spent with my girlfriends and my mom. I of course have terrible order envy and chose a muddled wine (which was delicious) and my friend Jaime chose the hot toddy. Of course I tried a sip and completely regretted my choice! So over Christmas I made hot toddy’s for everyone to finally get my hot toddy by the fire scene out of me!

I have spent many hours looking for the perfect recipe that hides the whiskey just a bit and is filled with lots of flavor. This one contains a caramel simple syrup that I am a firm believer is a game changer to this cocktail! If you can’t find it in the stores you can easily make it yourself, I attached a recipe below. Caramel Apple Cider Hot Toddy

Prep time: 15 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients

Whiskey
2 tea bags of Muddled Spices (I recommend R.W. Knudsen)
1/2 cup Apple Juice
2 tbs Caramel Simple Syrup (recipe here)
Lemon Wedge
Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Directions

Boil two cups of water in a pot and let the muddled spice tea bags seep for about 3-5 minutes. Add 1/2 cup apple juice to the tea in the pot and mix for about 2 minutes. Fill two mugs with 1 – 2 oz of whiskey. Add the muddled spice mixture, simple syrup and mix. Garnish with lemon wedges and cinnamon sticks.
