Hosting a Simple Baby Shower

June 23, 2021 · In: Parties, Spring Entertaining, Summer Entertaining

Our renovation is 99% complete!

In case you missed it… back in October we sold our home in Denver and bought a new one to fix up in the middle of the woods, thirty minutes from the city. Living a little more remote with land is something Jeremy and I have always wanted to do. We both grew up in the mountains so always kind of craved that lifestyle! We didn’t think it would have come this soon, but with quarantining in the city, COVID and all it’s new “rules” we thought a lifestyle change would be just what we needed. Plus, if we ever had to go back into a quarantine again, I wanted to be somewhere we could feel like we were on vacation, haha. So, the first weekend in the house we began demo and as I write this today we are 99% complete! It helped get the ball rolling, really fast, because I offered to host this sweet simple baby shower for a dear friend back in February. It was important that we at least had the whole main floor completed and functional for the 20 guests that were coming to our home. A few things didn’t get done in time – the main floor powder room, stair railing and new doors, but the kitchen, dining and living room were functional and boy did this turn out to be such a gorgeous party!

The momma to be wanted the decor to be very simple and neutral in colors so I stuck with white florals with greenery as the main decor component [florals by Ruffly Rose]. I had these cute signs made to welcome the guests along with an “Advice for the Parents“ one. For the dining table I added these adorable little wooden alphabet blocks as one little “baby” decor detail. White gauze napkins tied in silk blue ribbons sat in a basket with the silverware to match the white gauze table runner on the main dining table.

For drinks I served white wine and champagne to keep everything simple – and, since we had brand new floors in I didn’t want to risk any colored drinks spilling!

Lastly, on the menu was a spread that I ambitiously made all by myself the morning before – something I would not recommend doing alone! I was cooking right up until the guests arrived at 11:30am, whew! Mini bagels topped with cream cheese and salmon, herbed goat cheese toasts with strawberries, individual spinach salads with pears, feta and candied pecans were some of the crowd pleasers! I stuck to the concept of everything being “mini” or “individual” so guests could easily munch on different foods throughout the party.

For the flow of the event everyone gathered and chatted while sipping on champagne. There was a station to fill out advice cards for the parents to be. I had fuzzy slippers for each guest to put on so they were cozy in our shoeless home – one of m favorite details! In lieu of opening all of the gifts, we announced that if anyone wanted her to open their gift with them they could do so during the brunch. This way, everyone isn’t inundated with watching all of the presents opened. It was truly such a lovely perfect Sunday! And let me tell you, I am incredibly grateful my sweet husband worked his booty off to get all that we could get done in the renovation so this event could happen!
