The big easy.
Happy Mardi Gras Ya’ll! While the rest of the country is going about their daily routines the Big Easy is booming with food, booze, music, and beads! If you can’t make it down to the Cajun land, don’t worry, we have the perfect details for you to make your own Mardi Gras bash! Don’t forget the key ingredient for this festivity is to have fun, as they say in New Orleans, “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler,” which means, “Let The Good Times Roll.”
Grab some beads and feather masks from any party store, and decorate your table in black and gold. The traditional Mardi Gras colors are purple, green, and gold so try to add some purple and green accents throughout the house as well.
Mix up a traditional hurricane cocktail for all of your guests to enjoy while waiting for dinner. We ordered the Pat O’Brien’s Hurricane Mix online and added water to the mix and served half parts hurricane mix and half parts rum over ice. This made for a zesty cocktail that will get everyone in the festive mood. You can always find other recipes for a hurricane cocktail online as well!
Every Cajun recipe is usually a very hearty one, which is why we recommend this one dish wonder we call Shrimp Étouffée that we know your guests will enjoy. Don’t forget to serve with a big warm loaf of french bread, which is traditional at every New Orleans meal. Click here for our recipe for Shrimp Étouffée.
Lastly, don’t forget to buy a king cake from your local grocery store or order one straight from New Orleans for desert. Once you cut a slice for each person make sure to tell them that their is a small plastic baby inside of one of their slices. Tradition has it that whoever receive’s the plastic baby inside of the king cake must throw the next party and provide the king cake.
Cheers ya’ll!
