Summer 2020 Hosting Tips – Midsommar Party

June 23, 2020 · In: Parties, Summer Entertaining

Hosting may look and feel a little different this year, but that shouldn’t stop you from throwing a party!

While it’s still important to follow your states guidelines for “social distancing”, if you are able to or comfortable in hosting this summer, here are a few tips to help keep your guests feeling safe!

We threw one of my dear friends who has a Swedish heritage a Midsommar themed party for her birthday. This was truly one of the funnest little soirées to throw for a group of women! Equipped with a flower crown making station, a maypole, delicious Swedish themed food catered by Chef Dane’s Kitchen, and a gorgeous summer inspired table, it was the best way to kick off summer!

In order to keep our ten guests feeling “safe” attending this party, there were a few simple details I focused on.

  1. Setting the table I chose to set a wide long table using two folding tables side by side. This way I could space the guests well apart.
  2. I set out WIPEYS hand wipes in a little dish on the table so guests could keep their hands clean before and after they ate!
  3. We hired a caterer, Chef Dane’s Kitchen so only one person was focusing on handling the food.
  4. We had a little cocktail hour before sitting down to dinner, which is another great way to host something while “social distancing”.

When it came to setting the table I wanted the theme to feel colorful and summery! My friends at The Ruffly Rose put together the most gorgeous colorful blooms for the centerpiece. I kept the tableware neutral with these gorgeous caramel plates paired with a blush pink napkin and my gold flatware. If you have not seen the movie Midsommar, there is an image with the main character dressed in flowers – I thought a fun touch would be photo shopping her face in it, lol.

On the menu Chef Dane created the perfect Swedish spread including Swedish meatballs, smoked trout and pea salad, german potato salad with dill and flank steak.

To set up a flower crown station, I asked The Ruffly Rose to pre make the crowns so we could just add in single blooms. I put individual flowers into separate vases to pick from. For the “maypole” I just tied colorful ribbon around our umbrella! The tradition is to dance around the pole while holding onto the ribbon – it was too much fun!
